I stopped by the deli for a sandwich, making sure to order three of the most delicious sounding ones I could. Laden with hearty sandwiches piled high with meats, cheeses, and doused in a vinegary dressing, I made my way to the police station, equipped with the best excuse I could think of to make sure I got in.

It might have been silly not to just tell Craig why I was there looking for Frankie’s address, but the moment I asked for it, he’d want to know why I wanted it. I wouldn’t be able to get away with some half-baked explanation, either; he’d see through it too easily. I’d have to tell him about Delores and the conversation I’d had with Mr. Louis, and then he would want to drop whatever it was that he was doing and help me. And given all that he had on his plate already, I couldn’t let him do that.

There really isn’t a whole lot I’ll probably be able to find out tonight, anyway, I assured myself as I parked outside the station and grabbed hold of the grease-stained bags to carry inside. Even if I do find the address and head over there, there’s no guarantee I’d even be able to follow through with anything the brother tells me – and that’s even if he’s home in the first place! It could be days before I can do anything.

I could only hope that if the money did have anything to do with Delores, the Robinsons would wait a little longer before fleeing the country.

But they probably won’t leave until they find the money, will they?

If that was the case…then the power was still in my hands, wasn’t it?

Craig’s secretary sent me right through to his office; “He’s not here right now, but he’s been in and out all day. Feel free to go back there and wait. Better than you waiting up here with me.”

I didn’t argue with the sour-faced woman.

I lugged the sandwiches back to Craig’s office, setting them down on his desk. When I’d asked when Craig and Roger Elwood would be back, all I had gotten was a slightly nasty look in response.

Wiping my hands on my trousers, I looked around.

I hadn’t been in Craig’s office many times, but I had some understanding of how his mind worked. As such, I figured I might be able to find where he’d keep things like addresses for people in town.

The east wall of his office boasted a full row of filing cabinets, most of which had locks on the front. I tried the first one, and frowned when I tugged on it and found it wouldn’t budge.

Craig, you aren’t making this easy for me.

I moved along down to each cabinet in turn, my frustration growing as they continued to be locked the further I went.

It wasn’t until I reached the second to last cabinet that the drawer came flying out, bouncing into my stomach and nearly knocking the wind out of me.
